Donna's Story
By Donna Anselmo

When we moved into a new home, I had a sense that there was someone else at home sometimes when no one was here. I had noticed a few odd things, too. Like doors I knew I had closed and locked, and I would find them open. Then one night, I woke up and saw a figure in the dark of my room. I didn't think much of it because I thought it was my husband - until I realized he was in bed beside me. Then my scream woke him, and he yelled, too. (What the bleep was that, as it faded away. A few nights later, I awoke feeling rather chilly. When I got up to adjust the thermostat, I noticed that someone (the ghost?) had moved the index card I had taped to my French doors as a reminder to turn off the burglar alarm in the morning. The card now had been slipped in between the seam of the doors, when I had taped it to the back of the door in a different spot. Since I was the only one home that night, the only "logical" explanation was that our ghost had done it. Another night a musical toy left in the kitchen started playing for no reason at about 2:00 a.m. and scared our houseguest senseless!

I learned from a neighbor that the woman who had lived here before us had died in what is now my bedroom. So, when I would sense her presence or find something amiss I would speak out loud and let her (?) know that although this is our home now, she is welcome to stay as long as she doesn't do anything to scare us. I also gently nudged her to move on since she doesn't have to take care of this house anymore. I promised I would take care of it and she could move on in her journey.

I haven't seen or felt anyone here in close to a year, so I guess our ghost is gone.
